MULTYIMODAL ANALYSIS

Multimodal Analysis:
looks at the way in which texts
produce their meaning through a combination of words and other semiotic
modes.

Semiotic:
a term describes the study of signs
and sign
system.
3.
Sign system:
any systematic and
conventionalized organization of meaning-making resources that is used for
communication.
Sign è

entity that communicates a meaning.
è è Something stands for something else.
E.g. words/images/sound/gestures
(Have
a particular meaning in a particular context)

Semiotic looks to understand how such signs combine with
another to facilitate communication.

Multimodal
Approach looks at how such system (sign system) combine together to produce the
communicative act.

Picturebook is conceived of as a whole product (not only text-not only
picture)

In every picturebook, writers need to distinguish
their main
characters by different way. To
remain recognizable, a character need only reveal a few signal traits such as
the blue jacket in Peter Rabbit (curly hair-striped tail-etc.).
This
is called metamorphosis= develops and changes into something completely
different.

Metonyms of personality, species, gender, character type constitute elements
of a semic code, but also play a role in action, as the main character
undergoes an identity crises related to the presence or absence of a primary
feature.
